Kappa Delta at Beloit College Hosts the First-Ever Shamrock Kids Festival to Help Prevent Child Abuse
100% of proceeds from the week’s events will be donated to Prevent Child Abuse organizations
Beloit, WI, October 12, 2020 – From Monday, October 19th to Sunday, October 25th, 2020, the Kappa Delta chapter at Beloit College will host its first Shamrock Kids Festival to raise money to promote children's well-being in Wisconsin and across the country through Prevent Child Abuse Wisconsin and Prevent Child Abuse America. This year, due to COVID-19, Shamrock will be held virtually through our new Shamrock website, kdupsiloncommunity.wixsite.com/shamrock.
The website will host videos created by the women in the Upsilon chapter of various family-friendly arts and crafts meant to build confidence and positive family experiences, videos of activities to keep children active, and videos of cooking fun that families can do at home together. People can also find informational documents to print and share with friends and family. Other activities and information will be provided by Prevent Child Abuse Wisconsin. Donations will be collected online through the Kappa Delta Upsilon website. While the event's primary goal is to spread awareness of child abuse and how everyday people can support our community's children, monetary donations can go a long way to helping the well-being of children in Wisconsin and around the country.
“As members of Kappa Delta Sorority, Prevent Child Abuse America is an organization that has become near and dear to all of our members,” said Connor Keegan-Lloyd, President of Kappa Delta – Upsilon Chapter. “We are honored to be hosting an event that will benefit children around Wisconsin and the country. It is our goal to raise awareness for this important cause, and we are excited to get the members or our community involved.”
Most children are raised in stable, nurturing environments. Unfortunately, children are sometimes exposed to extreme stress, such as child abuse and neglect, which undermines their development. More than 44,000 child abuse cases were reported in Wisconsin in 2016 (according to Wisconsin Child Abuse and Neglect Report - Wisconsin DCF). Nationally, there are approximately 681,000 confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect (according to Child Protective Services, 2011).
We all play a role in the healthy development of children and their families. You can make a difference by supporting this year’s Shamrock Event and donating to support Prevent Child Abuse Wisconsin. Participation includes monetary donations, participating in online events, and displaying informative pamphlets or sheets in your businesses and with friends. Please consider donating and participating in the Shamrock Event in some way.
Our goal is to raise $2,000 for the prevention of child abuse. 80% of the proceeds from the event will stay in our community to fund the incredible work done by Prevent Child Abuse Wisconsin. The remaining 20 percent will go to Prevent Child Abuse America, the leading advocate for preventing child abuse and neglect among our nation’s children since 1972. Since adopting child abuse prevention as a national philanthropy in 1983, Kappa Delta has raised more than $15 million nationally for this vital cause. With your help, we can continue to impact the lives of children in our community and nationwide.
Your participation and donation are more than just an investment in America’s future. It’s also an opportunity to increase your visibility on campus and in the community. We look forward to working with you to prevent child abuse.
